I did “The Performance is Finished” when my daughter, who was on track to be a prima ballerina, decided her heart wasn’t in it. After years of going to auditions etc., I realized I needed to do a piece as sort of a farewell. And this is it. I did this on hot press Watercolor paper with Faber-Castell drawing pencils.
The print is available as a fine art print on beautiful Hahnemuhle museum-quality paper.
“HYDRANGEAS” is a painting I did on hot press paper. This paper gives a very distinctive look which I love. The paper is very smooth and has no dips in which to catch the paint. Therefore, the paint travels and creates a softer effect which I think is very beautiful.
Thanks for peeking in here! Teaching is not my forte’, but I hope you enjoy this attempt to show you a bit of the watercolor process. To begin, I placed this painting on a board at about a 45° angle. I taped it down, and then started drawing. Below is a sketch of the two hens I drew on the paper. Normally, I draw with a very light pencil so the lines can’t be seen through the paint. Here I’ve darkened them (in Photoshop) so you can at least see them… the bottom of the drawing got so dark, I had to eliminate it…(more…)
